Women in the Lane

It is common stereotype that women are bad drivers, and the fact is untrue, one could go as far as to say that women and cars are a great match given the fact that women have played important roles when it comes to drive. No one took into consideration that this was something that could happen to anyone. The car did not just stop working in the middle of the road because I am a woman.

females are good at driving

Men think that women are only good for household chores or easy tasks and feel that driving is a task that can only be perfected by a man. Personally, I think women are better drivers as we are not easily distracted like our male counterparts. If a man overtakes a car its fine but if a women does it, God forbid, a man’s ego get hurt. Women in Pakistan rarely ride bicycles or motorcycles and they often consider rickshaws and cabs unsafe if they are alone. Shared buses and vans do have separate sections for women, but the latter say they are always bracing themselves for an untoward experience. These perceptions discourage them, or in many cases, family members stop them from travelling on these vehicles.

sometimes the difference between a myth and reality just depends on how you look at it – with a man’s rational logic or a woman’s perspective. “Must be a woman driver,” you think to yourself or say aloud to other (presumably male) passengers onboard while waiting for what feels like an eternity – and when you finally overtake them, you snap your head back to confirm your presumption.

Maria Teresa de Filipins,  first female Formula 1 driver

And while we are on the subject, let us not forget MariaTeresa de Filipins, who became the first female Formula 1 driver in 1958 and eventually participated in five World Championship Grands Prix races. After her came Lilla Lombardi, who competed in 17 races over the course of three seasons (1974-1976), thus paving the way for a generation of professional female drivers including Divina Galicia, Desire Woman so far to attempt to qualify for Formula 1 in 1992.  Women can also be a very good drivers. Women can also drive car and taxi very well.
